Multi Post Email Flow Update
Do you have the Multi Post Widget? If so, you may notice a few changes in the next week.

Starting October 14, your users will experience a different flow when sharing your content via email.
1. To share via email, users must first click the icon with the 3 dots.
2. Users will then click on the email icon
3. Users choose their preferred email provider
4. This will open an email message window with a unique URL and your content

As a result, users will directly share your content from their email provider.

New ShareThis Widget Email Flow

1. Click the icon with the 3 dots             2. Click the email icon                   3. Choose an email provider

 4. New email window pops up where users can directly share your content to others.

Why can’t users email directly from the ShareThis pop-up window?
We altered this functionality to increase users’ privacy and work in accordance with the policies of our integrated email partners. This helps ensure that the person sending the email is who they claim to be. Thus decreasing spam.

I don’t see the email option when I click on the ShareThis Widget. What happened to it?
Don’t worry, its still there. Click the icon with the 3 dots and you will see the email icon. See above screenshot.

How can I get back the old Email Workflow?
Unfortunately, the old email flow featured in the Multi Post Widget will no longer be available.

Will my Email Counter get affected by this change?
Your email counter will not be affected by this change.

New Look. Same Function.
The ShareThis Multi Post widget received an upgrade today.
This subtle change will give your social tools a more modern look and improved user interaction. And don’t worry, the widget still functions the same way so your users can choose from 120 social channels to share your content with their friends and family.

What do I need to do for this update?
Nothing! We’ll do all the changes on the backend.

I received an email update but I have the Direct Post widget How do I get the new version?
If you were chosen and have the Direct Post widget, then you first have to upgrade to the Multi Post widget. You can do this by changing your version parameter to “5x” and you’ll automatically get the new look. Example:

<script type="text/javascript"> stLight.options({ publisher:INSERTYOURPUBKEY,version:"5x"});</script> });
Can I still customize the new version of the Multi Post widget?
The new version Multi Post widget does not support customized themes. But if you guys still want it, we'll try to make it happen.

Can I keep the old version of the Multi Post widget?
We're constantly trying to improve our products to provide with the tools you need to keep your users engaged. This new version of the Multi Post widget is designed to make it easier for users to share your content. Therefore, it is out with the old and in with the new. Sorry, but you will not be able to rollback to the old look of the Multi Post widget. But why would you want to?

I manage/own multiple websites with the Multi Post widget and not all of them got upgraded. What do I do?
Just sit tight. We're going to be rolling out the upgrade to all Multi Post widgets in the next few week. It's coming!?

     1/29/2014
     You may have been selected to get a free ShareThis widget upgrade from Direct Post to Multi Post.
     With the Multi Post upgrade, you'll get:
  • • Sharing within the widget - No more re-directs away from your website.
  • • One click share and post to multiple social networks at once.
  • • Access to new code - You’ll automatically get the latest and greatest from ShareThis.

Why did I get the free widget update?
ShareThis is continually working to provide you the social solutions to help you improve and drive value from the social engagement from your site. As a result, it is out with the old and in with the new. We’ll soon stop offering the Direct Post widget on our website.
I don’t want the Multi Post widget. Can I keep my Direct Post widget?
Although we highly encourage everyone to upgrade to the Multi Post widget, you can keep your Direct Post widget by adding the "version:"4x" " code. Example:

<script type="text/javascript"> stLight.options({ publisher:INSERTYOURPUBKEY,version:"4x"});</script> });
Note: We have added a new parameter called "version" that determines the type of modal you have.

General

Can I put the ShareThis button on my Facebook page?
This is not possible because because the ShareThis widget is an external JavaScript and Facebook does not support adding external code to Facebook pages.
Can I modify the Multi-Post to display some of the services available when selecting "More" ?
You can remove the "More" services in bulk, but not individually. In order to remove the “More” services, you will need to add the parameter “minorServices:'false'” to your stLight.Options script. Eg:

<script charset="utf-8" type="text/javascript" src="http://w.ShareThis.com/button/buttons.js">
</script>
<script type="text/javascript">stLight.options({publisher:'YOUR_PUBKEY', minorServices:false });
</script>
Why don’t the Google+1 and Facebook like button align well with the other buttons?
Since Google+1 and Facebook like are native buttons, ShareThis cannot change the button/bubble size to match with all our other standard buttons.
How can I revert back to the classic version of the widget?
To revert back to the classic version of the widget, simply remove the following line from your code : ‘var switchTo5x=true;’
Alternatively, you can change that line to ‘ var switchTo5x=false;’
Eg:

<script type="text/javascript">var switchTo5x=false</script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://wd.ShareThis.com/button/buttons.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
            stLight.options({
                publisher:'12345',
                        });
</script>
How do I customize the list of services displayed in the main window of the Multi Post (OAuth) widget?
The list of services displayed in the main window of the Multi Post widget can be customized but cannot be extended. This means that you can customize the widget to show specific services, but you cannot show more than 5 services. The “More” option has to be used to access the other services.
For example, to remove Yahoo and LinkedIn from the list of services you need to add the parameter “excludeServices” to stLight.options. See the following example:

<script type="text/javascript">
        stLight.options({
                publisher:'12345',
               excludeServices:' linkedin ,yahoo'
            });
</script>
To remove the “More” services, you will need to add the parameter
“minorServices:'false'” to your stLight.Options script. See the following example:

<script charset="utf-8" type="text/javascript"
src=" _cke_saved_src="http://w.ShareThis.com/button/buttons.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">stLight.options({publisher:'YOUR_PUBKEY', minorServices:false });
</script>
How do I configure the data displayed on Facebook upon sharing?
Facebook crawls the page looking for open graph tags that will be used for displaying the shared content. In order to specify the data to be shared on Facebook, you have to add the open graph tag in the header of each page. See the following example:

<meta property="og:image" content="URL OF IMAGE" />
More information on how to customize the information that is being shared with the ShareThis widget is available here: http://help.ShareThis.com/customization/share-properties

{
background:url(“http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-common034.gif”)
no-repeat scroll left top transparent;
padding:10px 10px 10px 23px;
}
Please note that  you will need to provide the proper padding (as in line no. 6 in the code above).
What should I do when I am trying to use the jQuery “get” function to retrieve the OAuth redirect URL and the call returns nothing?

$.get and $.getJSON$.getJSON(' http://rest.ShareThis.com/auth/getOAuth.php',
     { access_key: 'xyze',pub_key: 'xyz,provider:'twitter' },
     function(data) {
     alert(data.status);
     });
});
What should I do when I get a 200OK in the Firebug console but nothing in the response?
You need to pass in a redirect_url parameter as well. Please check the http://help.ShareThis.com/api/sharing-api for required parameters.
Is there any other method I can use to change the language?
We are in the process of supporting more languages. But unfortunately this is not ready at present. Please stay tuned for more languages support in coming months.

How do I add via @TwitterHandle to the end of Twitter shares from my site?

To do this, all you need to do is add st_via parameter to your Twitter button. For example, if you use a Large Twitter Button, your code should look like -

<span class="st_twitter_large" st_via="TwitterHandleName"'></span>
Please note that, by default, all tweets appear as ‘via @ShareThis’.
With ShareThis, you can also specify custom hashtags or trending topics in the share message body.

<span class="st_twitter_large" st_via=”TwitterHandleName” st_msg='#hashTag and #otherHashTag'></span>
For those using the ShareThis Hover Bar, insert the code below in the var options object:

				chicklets_params: {
                    twitter:{
                    "st_via":"TwitterHandleName"
                  }
   }

Why isn’t Google Buzz available in the ShareThis widget?
Google has announced that Google Buzz has been deprecated as of 10/14/11. Consequently, you will no longer find Google Buzz in the list of available services when you click on the ShareThis widget. In addition, if your site has featured the Buzz chicklet outside the ShareThis widget, it will automatically be removed.

You can always refer to this page for the update list of deprecated services -

You can go through our GetSharingTools page and choose the counter buttons that you like.
Alternatively, you can add ‘_hcount’ or ‘_vcount’ to the classname for the service span tag that you wish to see the counters for.

<span class=”st_sharethis_hcount”></span>

Why my users getting an error message when they try to add a webpage to their Flipbboard using the ShareThis widget Flipboard option?

Have you checked your robots.txt file? When a user tries to add a webpage to their Flipboard, Flipboard checks the rules of the website’s robots.txt file. The robot.txt file gives instructions that stops web crawler software from crawling specific pages from your site. With regards to Flipboard, your website’s robot.txt file tells crawlers not to crawl anything and therefore prohibited the page from being added to your user’s FlipBoard. See example screenshot.

Why aren’t the ShareThis buttons being displayed/working in IE?
You might be missing a “doctype” in your page. Due to this, IE is reverting to quirks mode. You could fix this by simply adding one of the W3C doctypes, or using the one below:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
Just note, IE6 rendering engine is no longer supported by either Microsoft or ShareThis.
Why is the image from the page shared with ShareThis broken?(Facebook Crawl Issue)
The ShareThis widget attempts to automatically pick the best image from the page. If our widget is not picking up an image or if you want it share a specific image, you can use one of the following two methods:

1. the “st_image” method. You can add this parameter to the span tag for that particular service. Eg:

<span class="st_ShareThis" st_image="Url of image" ></span>
2. the “og_image” method.
Facebook crawls the page to decide how to display an image. In order to specify the image to be shared on Facebook, you have to add the open graph tag in the header of each page. See the following example:

<meta property="og:image" content="URL OF IMAGE" />

This will add the ShareThis button to your blog below the title of the post.

B) Alternatively, to remove ShareThis from your Blogger front page, you can add the following line of code to your generated code from ShareThis:
1.  Paste this BEFORE your generated code: <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "item"'>
2.  Paste this AFTER your generated code: </b:if>
See an example below:

<span class='st_twitter_hcount' displayText='Tweet'/>
<span class='st_facebook_hcount' displayText='Share'/>
<span class='st_email_hcount' displayText='Email'/>
<span class='st_ShareThis_hcount' displayText='Share'/></b:if>
Is there a way to easily remove ShareThis from specific pages within WordPress?
Selecting the pages on which you want to display the ShareThis widget is not possible with automatic installation through WordPress.
The following steps have to be followed to customize where the ShareThis buttons are displayed:
1) Set the plugin to not automatically place the buttons
2) Add span tags manually to your templates.

To add span tags to your template you need to put 'script tags' in your “Main index template” (index.php) and 'span tags' in a condition block in “Single Post template” (single.php).  See the following example on how to add the ShareThis button.

<span class="st_ShareThis" st_title='<?php the_title(); ?>'
 st_url='<?php the_permalink(); ?>' displayText="ShareThis">
</span>
You can also change the class of the span to determine how the button appears. For example, the following tag will make a vertical email counter button:

class="st_twitter" will make a twitter icon and class="st_email_vcount"
By adding code in (index.php) and (single.php) the ShareThis buttons will not be displayed on the blog page, but they will be displayed whenever an  individual post is opened.

<span  class='st_facebook' ></span>
<span  class='st_yahoo' ></span>
<span  class='st_gbuzz' ></span>
<span  class='st_email' ></span>
<span  class='st_ShareThis' ></span>
<div class="entry-utility">
How do I customize the ShareThis button so that it appears on the before the body of the blog post?
To display buttons at the beginning of each post on the blog page, you need to add 'span tags' below the following lines:

<h2 class="entry-title">
<a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>"
title="<?php printf( esc_attr__( 'Permalink to %s', 'twentyten' ),
the_title_attribute( 'echo=0' ) ); ?>" rel="bookmark"><?php the_title(); ?></a>
</h2>
<div class="entry-meta">
    <?php twentyten_posted_on(); ?>
</div><!-- .entry-meta -->
<?php if ( is_archive() || is_search() ) : // Only display excerpts for archives and search. ?>
See example below where the ShareThis <span> tags is in a conditional block:

How do I use ShareThis with Wix?
Since Wix creates buttons inside of an iframe with its own URL, you need to add ‘span tags’ and ‘script tags’ in the HTML box. This can be done by specifying in the ‘span tag’ the URL you want to share using the st_url and st_title parameters.
For example:

<span class=”st_ShareThis” displayText=”ShareThis”>
</ span>
Would become:

<span class=”st_ShareThis” st_title='your title' st_url='YOUR URL' displayText=”ShareThis”></span>
This needs to be done for each service span tag, i.e., twitter facebook, email, etc.
How do I hide the ShareThis icons from print mode?

Why do I see duplicated ShareThis buttons in WordPress?
Make sure you do not have multiple copies of the ShareThis script tag on your site. Also, please note that the ShareThis script tag should only be in the <head> of the page.
An easy way to fix this is remove the plugin completely and then reinstall it.
Why do my counter buttons show “New” instead of the counts?
If a social channel button has not been shared, it will not have any counts. In such cases, we default to show "New".  You have the option of showing counts by adding
newOrZero:"zero"in their options
For example

<script type="text/javascript">
stLight.options({publisher:'YourPublisherKey', newOrZero:"zero"});
</script>

Why isn’t the Facebook Like button not displaying in IE browser?
If you get the error below, then it is probably related to Facebook’s code use of innerHTML property of IE.

Message: Unknown runtime error
Line: 6
Char: 328
Code: 0
URI: http://connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1
If the HTML markup is not well-formed.  As a result, the button will not be shown. Changing the wrapper p tag to a div tag would resolve this issue. The two cases are shown below

<!-- This will not work in IE7 and IE 8 -->
<p>
<span class='st_fblike_hcount' ></span>
</p>
<!-- This WILL work in IE7 and IE 8 -->
<div>
<span class='st_fblike_hcount' ></span>
</div>

Right now we don't have an option to add Google+1 or Facebook Like buttons in ShareThis module for Drupal. Our development team is working on it and it will be available soon.
In the meantime, you can add buttons to your drupal page by editing the theme html.
1. Go to drupal->themes->bartik->templates

<span  class='st_plusone' ></span>
<span  class='st_fblike' ></span>
below the lines:

<div class="content clearfix"<?php print $content_attributes; ?>>
<?php
// We hide the comments and links now so that we can render them later.

hide($content['comments']);
hide($content['links']);
print render($content);
?>
</div>
Why isn’t the Google+1 button displayed on my site?
The button may not be displayed on your page because there may be javascript errors preventing the dynamic loading of the Google+1 button.
Try adding the following code in header tag:

<script type="text/javascript" src="https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js">
If this does not work, you can also add “gapi.plusone.go();” to your javascript code, after “buttons.js” has loaded.

<span class="st_ShareThis" st_title='<?php the_title(); ?>'
st_url='<?php the_permalink(); ?>' displayText="ShareThis"></span>

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://w.ShareThis.com/button/buttons.js">
</script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://s.ShareThis.com/loader.js"></script>
4. Add the following script tags’ in the main index template (index.php) at the end of the file:

<script>
var options={"publisher":"publisher key","position":"left",
"ad":{"visible":false,"openDelay":"5","closeDelay":"0"}};

CopyNShare

Starting on June 10, select ShareThis widgets will be automatically updated with CopyNShare. Please contact us if you do not want this awesome feature or click here to learn how to disable your CopyNShare settings.

CopyNShare is a ShareThis widget feature that enables you to track the shares that occur when a user copies and pastes your website's URL or content. ShareThis adds a special #hashtag at the end of your address bar URL to keep track of where your content is being shared on the web, from Facebook, Twitter to emails, etc. When a user copies text within your site, a “See more: yourURL.com#SThashtag” will appear after the pasted text.

Updated August 21 - We have automatically updated more publishers with the CopyNShare feature!

Email Security

What changes will be made to the email sharing option?
In the coming weeks, your users will notice a flow change when they try to share via email. They will be prompted to share via their email provider (Google, Yahoo, Outlook or their computer default) or to O-Auth sign-in via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Yahoo or Google. This ensures that users’ emails are not being abused on your site.
Why did Sharethis make this change?
ShareThis cares about your users and their privacy. We’ve improved our email security to ensure that email addresses are not being abused and your users are who they say they are.
Can I configure this option?
There is no code change on your part. Unfortunately, you cannot configure this option. We want to ensure that email addresses are not being abused.
When will this change occur?
This change occurred on July 9, 2012.

Sharing Counters

What is the difference between social channel (native) counts and ShareThis counts?
Social Channel (native) counts are those recorded by the social channel (Facebook, LinkedIn, StumbleUpon). These counts track all social actions such as shares, likes and comments that take place within the social network.

ShareThis counts represent all the social actions recorded by ShareThis on a publisher's website. The social actions such as outbound shares and inbound clicks, are aggregated by Publisher Key ( a unique identifier that distinguishes each publisher).

Since ShareThis does not track as to what social events take place within the social channel, ShareThis counts and social channel counts are different.
Why do the counts on my website not match the counts in my Social Analytics Dashboard?
If the counts on your website do not match the counts in your Social Analytics Dashboard, it means that you have chosen to implement social channel (native) counts on your website. Social channel counts are provided by the social channel. ShareThis counts provide information based on ShareThis data only. For more information on the difference between the ShareThis counts and the social channel counts, see question above.
How was the ShareThis Count Services system changed after July 24, 2012?
Beginning July 24, 2012, the counts seen in your Social Analytics Dashboard will reflect those exclusively tracked by ShareThis social tools. Prior to this date, ShareThis used additional information from social channels.  ShareThis has opted to show counts from ShareThis so they match with what is seen on your website.  We made these changes to ensure accuracy and reliability in your analytics. Our goal is to continue to provide you with solutions to improve and drive value from the social engagement of your site.

ShareThis will offer the option to show social channel counts in your Social Analytics Dashboard and on your website. Please note that social channel counts may not always match ShareThis counts.
Are there any disadvantages for us if we opt for the native buttons (like Twitter, Facebook Like or Google +1)?
Yes, three.
1. You cannot customize the look and feel of those buttons as they come from the service providers and they can't be changed or edited in any way by us or you.
2. As we don't have much control over the look and feel of these buttons, you will need to fix alignment of the buttons as the native buttons are slightly smaller than the buttons we offer.
3. For native Twitter buttons, the numbers on the buttons will not match the Lifetime Count number that you see on our Analytics Dashboard as Twitter does not have a public-facing API allowing us to get the Lifetime Count numbers.

Will my ShareThis counts be affected if I change the URL path?
ShareThis counts are aggregated at the URL level. If you change the subdomain, the counts will be reset to 0 as the page is reported under a different URL. This applies if you choose to implement a redirect from the old URL to the new URL

How do I show counts on my website that represent the aggregated number of shares from both mobile and desktop users?
To show counts, you have to configure the ShareThis widget to display counts (you can configure and get the code from here). Social activity is aggregated at the URL level. If you have the same URL for both mobile and desktop websites, the counts provided in the widget will represent the aggregated number. If you use different URLs for your desktop and mobile site versions (e.g. for mobile you use http://m.yourdomain.com), please contact us at support@sharethis.com.

How do I show my social channel (native) counts on my website?
Users need to set the flag nativeCount to true. This is in the stLight.options object. This flag is false by default. Setting to true will switch from our count service to native counts for all services supported. For now, that's LinkedIn, StumbleUpon, and Facebook. See sample.

<script type="text/javascript">stLight.options({ publisher: 'PUBKEY', nativeCount: true });</script>

Mobile Web

I am new to ShareThis. How can I get the code for the mobile ShareThis widget?
Mobile sharing is a feature of the ShareThis widget. You can get the code from here and it works for both your desktop and mobile websites.
How does mobile sharing via e-mail work?
Users can share via e-mail by pressing the email icon in the sharing widget. The widget will open the mobile OS built-in email application.
Where can I find mobile sharing activity on ShareThis Analytics?
The ShareThis widget will log all social activity no matter where it originates (from desktop or mobile). Social activity is aggregated at the URL level. For publishers that use the same URL for both desktop and mobile versions of their website, the social activity from mobile devices will be aggregated with the social activity from desktop devices. For publishers that have different URLs for their mobile site (e.g. http://m.yourdomain.com), the social activity will be reported for each specific mobile URL.
Can I use ShareThis for my mobile website?
If you are already using ShareThis on your regular website you are set. Mobile sharing capabilities are available automatically for your website. If your website is mobile friendly, make sure that you use the same ShareThis code on both the mobile and the desktop versions of your website.
